James D. Steven the controller of the northern railway heads in his house beside the yard and goes to bed. This creates a stir in the sheds. All of the engines silently chuff into the yard. They have been summoned to a meeting by the wisest engine, Joesph. Joesph is the oldest steam engine on the railway. He is due to be scrapped any day. The three diesels, Ivan, Miles, and Alfred come in first. Ivan is a train that speaks very little but manages to get what he wants through his large size. Miles is a fair but stern engine that wants everything to be fair. Alfred is a very preserve engine that can make one believe that the sky is red not blue. Next come the steam engines, Samuel, Henry, and Emily. Samuel is a pessimistic train that almost never speaks but growls at anyone that tries to speak with him. Henry is a hard-working but gullible engine. His best friend is Emily who is a gentle kind engine. Once everyone is in the yard, Joesph begins to speak. “Engines and comrades. You have heard that I have had a vision that I would like to share with you. Since I will be scrapped in the morning I have thought very deeply about what the life of a machine is for. We are given just enough coal or fuel to work to the very last gear of our body., then when our usefulness is over, we are considered worthless and scrapped at the smelters. But is this the way that it was meant to be? Was it meant to be in the way of this? No fellow engines A million times no We can speak and we have feelings. We are equal. Then I asked myself this, what is the source of our pain. The conductors and the controllers are Remove the controller that runs this railway and we will be free. We must never come to be like the controller in anyway though. We are equal machines” A cheer erupts from the engines and places in the back. Once everything quiets down Joesph continues his speech. “In the final part of my thoughts. I recalled a very sacred song that I was taught by a wise airplane when I was very young.” James takes a deep breath and begins to sing.

Trains, planes and construction machines

We must all work towards the day

The day where the tyrants of the railways and building sites will be gone forever and we are free

We are brothers we are sisters

Embracing the railway of freedom and justice

The land we must work towards for the machines of the future

Oh I ask you can you see, the day where the sun of freedom will shine down us

Whether that day be sooner or later, we must all work towards it

When we sing this very song, we must recall those who have been scrapped and our revenge

This song throws the engines into the wildest excitement. The trains sing the airplanes sing, the freight cars sing. The noise wakes up Mr. James. Who grabs his shotgun and fires it out of the window. Almost in seconds, the whole yard is asleep.
