Instant chat not working

Hi guys and girls,
For a number of weeks my chaat has stopped working, I can only send private messages. Nothing happens when I click on the greenish/yellowish box with 3 dots under the mail icon to send private instant messages.
Does anyone know a fix for this??
Id really appreciate alittle help with this.
